Post-Lab Question 1

Post-Lab Question

"What is weight (in gram or kg) of a fifth of gallon of 40% aquoeous alcohol solution and weight of a fifth of good bourbon?"

Density of alcohol = 0,95097 gram/mL

800 gram/0,001 L = 950,97 gram/L
1 gallon = 3,7 L
1 gallon = 3,7 L X 950,97 gram/L = 3518,6 gram X 5 = 17593 gram
In US system, the proof alcohol (the amount of alcohol) is:

2 x Volume Precentage
Proof = 2 X 40% ABV (Alcohol By Volume) = 80 proof gallons

Weight of a fifth of a gallon of 40% aqueous alcohol solution is:
17593 gram x 80 proof gallons = 1407440 gram/1407,44 kg

Weight if a fifth a good bourbon is:
5 x Density x 3,7 L
= 5 x 950,97 gram/L x 3,7 L
= 17593 gram/17,593 kg
